Entrepreneurs are familiar with the term business model. This very document, which presents the strategy for monetizing a service, product or activity, is vital for the company. And it is certainly even more so in the innovation context we are currently experiencing. Today’s startups are based on new business models, which are generally described as disruptive, in that they offer a major break with traditional business models.

What About the Digital Transformation in All This?

The business model represents one of the areas of digital transformation. And very often, it will be important to question it in order to remain competitive in a context where disruption represents a real threat. But as Bertrand Duperrin points out, “the business model is not an end in itself “*.

This is because the most important aspect of digital transformation is listening to the customer’s needs, and in particular, creating a customer experience. This is why the business model often only comes into play a posteriori, once the meeting with the customer has taken place. As a result, the business model is now the one structuring the chain of value.
